Lula exonerates 43 military personnel who took care of Alvorada

After President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) declared that he had “lost confidence” in part of the military and, therefore, had not yet appointed officers to act alongside him as order helpers, the PT government dismissed 43 corporals , sergeants, soldiers, a lieutenant and a colonel from the Military Police of the Federal District. The contingent had the task of taking care of both the Alvorada Palace and other official residences of the Presidency, including Granja do Torto.

The acts of exoneration were published in the Official Gazette of this Tuesday (17). The highest rank dismissed from the function was the colonel of the PM of the DF Marcelo de Oliveira Ramos. The list also includes military personnel from the Navy, Army and Air Force. The information is from the State Agency.

Now, Lula is organizing a meeting with the commanders of the Armed Forces. The meeting is arranged by the Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro, and should take place by next Friday (20th), according to the Chief of Staff, Rui Costa. At the meeting, Lula is expected to talk about strategic projects for the Navy, Air Force and Army that require government investment, in addition to addressing the position of the military in the invasion of the Planalto Palace.

Yesterday, Costa attended a lunch with Monteiro and the commanders, in an initial attempt to bring the government closer to the barracks.

During the electoral campaign, the president had his personal protection carried out by agents and delegates of the Federal Police. After he was elected, he preferred to keep the PF running the function. Traditionally, the Institutional Security Cabinet (GSI) takes care of the security of the President and Vice President of the Republic and their family members. So far, however, protection would still be under the responsibility of federal police. When the service is performed by the GSI, the agents deployed are military personnel.
