President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said, this Friday (12), that “now we are going to see what corruption is”, in reference to the government of former president Jair Bolsonaro. “He said he was an honest person fighting corruption. We are going to see what corruption is now with his group”, said Lula, during the launch of the Integral School Program, in Fortaleza.

At the event, the president also mentioned that Bolsonaro “is at home with his tail stuck”, due to the investigations that target the former president and his allies. The comment was made on the day that the military Marcelo da Silva Vieira, former head of the Office of Historical Documentation of the Presidency of the Republic, was the target of a search and seizure operation by the Federal Police (PF) in the case of Saudi jewels.

The measures taken by the former president during the COVID-19 pandemic were also criticized by Lula, who attributes Bolsonaro “responsibility for the deaths of more than 700,000 people”. “He will know how bad it was for him to lie to the Government. He even forged the vaccine card,” said the PT candidate.

In the electoral period of last year, Lula recognized the corruption during his government. He was the target of two cases in which he was convicted of corruption and money laundering – in the cases of the triplex in Guarujá and the site in Atibaia –, the sentences were annulled due to procedural issues and not due to a review of the occurrence or not of the bribe payments and attempts to conceal the undue advantage.
