Former police officer gave information that could point to the mastermind of the crime

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, announced, on Tuesday night (19), that the murderer of councilwoman Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes – former military police officer Ronnie Lessa -, reached a plea bargain agreement. , already approved by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The case is being led in Court by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

“We know that this award-winning collaboration, which is a means of obtaining evidence, brings extremely important elements, which lead us to believe that we will soon have a solution to the murder of councilor Marielle Franco. The process continues under judicial secrecy, as everyone knows,”

said Lewandowski, in a statement to the press, after receiving an official statement from Moraes about the approval of the plea.

The murders of Marielle and driver Anderson Gomes completed six years last week. So far, only the perpetrators of the crime have been identified and arrested.

The process that establishes who ordered the double murder was sent to the STF a few days ago. The investigation seeks to find out who ordered the deaths. As the investigation is under judicial secrecy, it is not yet possible to obtain details about the reasons that led the Federal Police (PF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), where the case was being processed, to send the case to the Supreme Court.

In criminal matters, the STF is responsible for judging authorities with privileged jurisdiction in the Court, such as federal deputies and senators. Thus, one of the justifications for sending the investigation may be the mention of the name of an authority with jurisdiction in the court. However, the reason for the investigation was not confirmed by the Federal Police.

In another case regarding the investigation, retired military police officer Ronnie Lessa must be taken to a popular jury. He was the one who fired the shots. Lessa has been in prison since 2019, for the crime, and was expelled from the PM last year.

Speculation about Ronnie Lessa’s plea bargain had already appeared in the news in recent months, but was denied by the PF. In addition to him, former military police officer Élcio de Queiroz, who drove the car used in the crime, has a plea bargain reached with investigators, the details of which were released last year.

In a post on social media, the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, Marielle’s sister, expressed optimism with the investigations based on this new accusation.

“The news that has just come out with the progress of the investigation into the case of my sister and Anderson gives us faith and hope that we will finally have answers to this political, cowardly and brutal murder. Minister Lewandowski’s announcement based on dialogue with Minister Alexandre de Moraes is a demonstration to Brazil that Justice institutions remain committed to resolving the case”,

he wrote.
