Leite’s ally decides to leave the presidency of the PSDB of SP – 01/21/2024 – Panel

President of the PSDB municipal directory since October, Orlando Faria decided to hand over the position. An ally of Eduardo Leite (PSDB-RS), he was bothered by internal moves for the PSDB to support the re-election of Ricardo Nunes (MDB), whose management he disapproves of.
The party must call a convention to decide the new president in the capital.
When contacted by the Panel, Faria said he would leave his post for personal reasons. According to the column, the last straw for the toucan was a meeting on December 19 between Paulo Serra, mayor of Santo André (SP) and president of the PSDB state directory, with Nunes.
Faria and the party’s national leadership were angry at not having been warned and invited. They found out about the meeting through the emedebista’s public agenda.
As the column showed, federal deputy Aécio Neves (MG) met with tucanos in São Paulo on Wednesday (17) to defend that the party launches its own candidacy in the capital.
Close to Bruno Covas (PSDB), who died in 2021, Faria was municipal secretary of the Civil House, Tourism and Housing, as well as state treasurer of the PSDB. One of his main criticisms of Nunes’ management is in relation to what he understands as the abandonment of the Targets Program that elected the ticket headed by the grandson of Mario Covas (PSDB).
The party is currently going through a crisis in its own São Paulo state directory. Serra was placed at the head of the PSDB-SP on Leite’s penultimate day as Tucano president, on November 28th. The measure generated indignation in the group that in recent years has been close to João Doria and that opposes the governor of Rio Grande do Sul.
National president of the PSDB, Marconi Perillo, then scheduled the party’s state convention for February 18, as requested by the wing that is critical of Leite, when it will be defined who will lead the party in São Paulo.
