The organizers of the left-wing demonstration scheduled for March 23 for democracy will give special prominence to Salvador (BA), greater than expected for São Paulo.
“We want to show the symbolism of the Northeast, of the region as a field of resistance to this new time we are living in”, says the PT’s Secretary of Popular Movements, Vera Lúcia Barbosa.
The presence of Lula, ministers, governors and parliamentarians from left-wing parties is expected in the capital of Bahia, although the president has not yet confirmed his participation. The location will be decided this week
In São Paulo, where Jair Bolsonaro (PL) performed at Paulista ten days ago, the order is to look for another location, so as not to provoke comparisons.
Alternatives studied are Largo da Batata, Praça da República or Largo de São Francisco, where a letter in defense of democracy was read in August 2022.
“There is a consensus among social movements that President Lula must attend the event in the line of defense of democracy, just as Bolsonaro led one that dialogues with the coup”, says Raimundo Bonfim, coordinator of the Central de Movimentos Populares.
