Left says Bolsonaro is a fraud and wants amnesty for his own benefit

The president of the Workers’ Party, Gleisi Hoffmann, and deputies Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) and Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) used social media to attack former president Jair Bolsonaro’s speech at the demonstration that filled Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, this Sunday (25).

“Bolsonaro’s speech was typical of a faker, from beginning to end. He should have presented his fabulous version of the coup decree to the Federal Police. He would have been confronted with the evidence of the conspiracy, which predicted troops in the streets and the arrest of ministers and opponents “, wrote Hoffmann on the social network X (Twitter).

Bolsonaro denied that he had participated in an attempted coup d’état and refuted the Federal Police’s accusations that he had participated in the drafting of a draft State of Siege or State of Defense decree.

The former president also defended that Congress grant amnesty to protesters arrested in acts of vandalism on January 8th at Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasília. Hoffmann stated that Bolsonaro defended amnesty for those convicted of the January 8 attacks, thinking about his own impunity.

“He is incapable of defending interests that are not his own. There is no need to be complacent with a coup plotter, starting with the boss of them all,” he said.

“Bolsonaro wants to take his followers to jail too, this is the only explanation for calling for an illegitimate act in ‘defense of the democratic rule of law’ when he is being investigated precisely for organizing a coup d’état”, wrote the PT president.

At the beginning of the demonstration, the president of the PT published a video of the events of January 8th with the following caption. “Today they dress like lambs, they talk about God and democracy. On January 8th they showed what animals they are.”

In a long text, she also spoke of a threat to democracy and said that Bolsonaro adopts a “victim” stance. “There is no point in softening speech or posing as a victim, Brazil and the world know Jair Bolsonaro’s anti-democratic, dictatorial and fascist record. He continues to be and will always be a threat to democracy, the rule of law and peace. What Bolsonaro did was outsource to Malafaia the attacks he has always made on Justice, institutions and the truth”, wrote the deputy.

Boulos and Lindbergh Farias ask for jail for ex-president

Representative Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) suggested on social media that the former president will be arrested. “Bolsonaro lies. He’s going to be arrested. He’s now talking about the draft of the coup. He says it was constitutional. Liar! Does the Federal Constitution allow a president to arrest minister Alexandre Moraes and annul the elections? Another thing, the coward said in the act about amnesty. Amnesty for him. There are so many proofs.”, he wrote.

Bolsonaro did not say in his speech that the alleged draft presented by the Federal Police was constitutional, as Farias suggests. The former president said that the possibility of declaring a State of Siege or Defense is in the Constitution, but it would be necessary to convene the Defense and Republic councils and approve it in Congress for it to come into force.

The deputy and pre-candidate for mayor of the capital of São Paulo for the PSOL, Guilherme Boulos, also questioned the former president’s arguments in his defense, when admitting the draft State of Defense decree. “Bolsonaro just literally confessed that they planned to arrest STF ministers, invalidate the electoral results and hold new elections. Jail for the coup plotters!” This statement by Boulos is an unfounded personal interpretation of the former president’s speech.

The deputy took the opportunity to invest in the polarization strategy of the mayoral campaign, linking his opponent, mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), to the former president. Nunes decided to go to the event, despite disagreements with the campaign coordinator, who saw political risk in the decision. “Nunes already has the VIP bracelet from the Cabinet of Hatred box,” wrote Boulos in X.
