‘Whoever may have stolen property must pay, but these penalties are beyond reasonableness’, says former president

Sao Paulo-SP) – While supporters occupied Avenida Paulista, this Sunday (25), former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) defended amnesty for those arrested for the coup acts of January 8th in a speech.

“What I seek is pacification, is to erase the past. It’s looking for ways for us to live in peace. It’s about not continuing to be startled. It is on the part of the Brazilian Parliament (…) an amnesty for those poor people who are imprisoned in Brasília”, argues Bolsonaro.

Political supporters were presidents at the event. Valdemar da Costa Neto, president of PL; Michelle Bolsonaro, former first lady; Tarcísio Freitas, governor of São Paulo, were some of them.

Investigated by the Federal Police for an attempted coup and arrested in the act on January 8 for carrying an illegal weapon, Valdemar spoke earlier on a sound car and stated that, thanks to Bolsonaro’s voters, the Liberal Party has become “bigger party of Brazil”.

Due to the Coup d’Etat investigation, Bolsonaro and Valdemar cannot maintain contact, by order of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Bolsonaro is ineligible until 2030 by decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
