LeBron James becomes NBA’s all-time leading scorer

The Los Angeles Lakers winger, LeBron James, became, this Wednesday (8), the highest scorer in NBA history when he scored 38 points in the loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder by 130 to 133.
He now has 38,390 points, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – now retired – who has 38,387. Kareem’s record stood for nearly 39 years, when the center passed Wilt Chamberlain on April 5, 1984, eight months before LeBron was born.
The North American Basketball League considers only the scores made in regular season matches for the ranking, excluding the playoffs.
James entered the game needing to score 36 points to break the record. With 10.9 seconds to go in the third half, he achieved the feat.
The game was stopped to recognize the achievement, allow him to address the crowd and welcome his family onto the field. “I just want to say thank you to the Lakers faithful, you are one of a kind,” he said.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was at the game and “passed the title” to the Lakers winger. “To be able to be in the presence of a legend like Kareem is unbelievable. Please give ‘The Captain’ a standing ovation”James said.
In the fourth quarter, he still scored two points, but it was not enough to guarantee the Lakers victory at home.
At 38 years of age, the athlete from Akron, Ohio, is averaging 30.1 points this season. LeBron James has already won four rings, two with the Miami Heat, one with the Cleveland Cavaliers and one with the Los Angeles Lakers.
