After Mayor David Almeida’s veto was overturned, the law was promulgated by the CMM Board of Directors
Manaus (AM) – The Manaus City Council (CMM) enacted Law No. 549, which prohibits performances with songs and dances with erotic or sensual content in public schools in Manaus. The author of the project, councilor Raiff Matos (DC), considers it a legal guarantee that his children will not be exposed to content that is inappropriate for their age group and that encourages early sexualization.
The councilor mentions the recent example of the “Cavalo Tarado” presentation held with students from Escola Municipal CIEP Luiz Carlos Prestes in Rio de Janeiro, in which a video showed a dancer wearing a horse mask to the sound of music with sexual content interacting with women. children.
The law aims to inhibit these practices, avoiding the possible impacts of eroticization on young people. It is supported by article 3 of the Child and Adolescent Statute, which guarantees the mental, physical, moral, spiritual and social development of children and adolescents in conditions of freedom and dignity.
“It is our understanding that the law complements the Constitution and the Statute of Children and Adolescents with regard to the protection of the inviolability of the physical and moral integrity of children and adolescents”,
says Raiff Matos
The bill that gave rise to the law was unanimously approved in the CMM Plenary, but suffered a total veto by the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida. The veto, however, was overturned. As there was no new statement from the mayor about the overthrow, the law was promulgated by the CMM Board of Directors and came into force in the capital of Amazonas.
