Latam announces, next week, that it will increase the number of flights in São Paulo by 5% in the second quarter, going from 1,712 weekly flights to 1,801 flights at the Congonhas and Guarulhos terminals.

From April onwards, the 89 extra weekly flights will have 19 destinations, including the new Congonhas-Caxias do Sul (RS) route, which will have five weekly flights.

The destinations with the most increases per week in Guarulhos will be Fortaleza (from 35 to 42 flights), Vitória (from 28 to 37 flights), Belo Horizonte/Confins (from 35 to 42 flights).

In Congonhas, there will be more departures on the air bridge to Rio de Janeiro (RJ), from 127 flights to 141 per week, to Brasília (DF), from 80 to 87 flights, and Porto Seguro (BA), from 7 to 14 flights .

Latam’s move coincides with the crisis at Gol, which, in judicial recovery, keeps dozens of planes on the ground without maintenance, which reduces the number of flights and puts even more pressure on average ticket prices.

As Panel SA showed in January, before announcing its judicial recovery, Gol had reduced the number of flights by 8.4% for the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2023.

Competitors Latam and Azul recorded, respectively, 1.1 and 7.1% of extra flights for the same period.

“We are receiving new aircraft from the factory and investing sustainably because we aim to increase our domestic operations in the country by 7% to 9% this year compared to 2023”, says Aline Mafra, director of sales and marketing at Latam.

The company even applied to take over some of Gol’s aircraft, as a way of solving the competitor’s financial problem, but the operation did not evolve.
