Kassab says he “hopes” that Bolsonaro will be able to explain the PF’s accusations

The national president of the PSD and Secretary of Government of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, said he “hopes” that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will be able to explain himself about the accusations he has faced since the end of his government. Among the accusations, the former president is the target of investigations investigating the sale of official gifts and an alleged coup attempt.

“I’m among those who hope he succeeds [se explicar]. I always say this and it doesn’t just apply to President Bolsonaro. I always say ‘I hope he can explain himself’, because it is very sad for Brazilians, who support a more vigorous democracy, to see excesses. So, I am among those who are cheering,” Kassab told reporters.

The leader participated in the launch of the pre-candidacy of the mayor of Belo Horizonte (MG), Fuad Noman (PSD), for re-election. Kassab also commented on the demonstration held by the former president on Avenida Paulista this Sunday (25). “He took an opportunity to make his case. He understood that by mobilizing his voters he could give her [sua defesa] the size he wanted”, he said.

Bolsonaro gathered thousands of supporters at the event in his retaliation. “A coup is a tank on the street, nothing like that was done in Brazil”, stated the former president. He said the basis of the accusation against him is a draft State of Defense decree. “Coup using the Constitution? Have patience!”, stated the former president during a speech.
