Justice sets date to judge Cury for groping Isa Penna – 06/15/2023 – Power

Judge Danielle Galhano Pereira da Silva, from the 18th Criminal Court of the Court of Justice of São Paulo, scheduled for July 26 the instruction and trial hearing of Fernando Cury (União Brasil) for groping Isa Penna (PC do B) in plenary of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo.

The hearing was scheduled two and a half years after the facts and after a soap opera by Justice to notify the former state deputy to present his prior defense.

Held virtually, the hearing will serve to hear the victim, witnesses and the accused of sexual harassment, in addition to representatives of the prosecution and defense. Among the witnesses are the President of the Assembly, André do Prado (PL), and deputies Alex de Madureira (PL) and Carlão Pignatari (PSDB), in addition to former deputy Cauê Macris (PSDB).

Alex is the deputy with whom Cury talks just before approaching Isa and who seems to be trying to stop him from approaching the then deputy.

Parliamentarians can choose another date to be heard, if they cannot attend on July 26th.

Lawyers for Isa and Cury do not expect the judge to give her sentence on that date, as the hearings are likely to take longer.

Last April, the case was referred to the first instance, as Cury was not re-elected in 2022 and lost his state deputy mandate. Isa ran for federal deputy and was not elected either.

In January of this year, after the Justice tried to locate him for five months, the former deputy presented his prior defense. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of São Paulo even pointed out that the deputy was hiding so as not to receive the notification, which stopped the progress of the action.

On December 16, 2020, Cury was caught by the cameras of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo groping the side of Isa’s body during a plenary session. He was removed from office for six months and was expelled from his party at the time, Cidadania.

On December 15, 2021, the Special Body of the TJ unanimously accepted the complaint against Cury.

As shown to Sheet, TJ’s attempt to find Cury so that he could present his prior defense began in July, unsuccessfully extended throughout the entire election campaign and was only ended on December 21, in a non-face-to-face way – he ended up being notified by WhatsApp message.

A court official came to look for him during a motorcade publicized by the campaign, but which ended up being cancelled.
