Júnior Favacho proposes a commission to prepare the State Code for People with ASD – News of Brazil

This Thursday, 4th, the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap) approved the state deputy’s request Junior Favacho (MDB), requesting the creation of a Special Commission to prepare the State Code for Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (TEA) at the legislative level. When established, the Commission must have representatives from civil society, professionals in the field, family members and autistic people.
“I presented this request because I understand that the Assembly needs to be involved in this debate and, more than that, it has a crucial role in drafting the Code for People with ASD to guarantee the rights and promote the inclusion of these people in society. However, this is work that needs to be done in ‘multiple hands’, and we must listen to those who are experts and most interested in the subject”explained Júnior Favacho.
Regarding the importance of creating the Code, the parliamentarian stated that, although there are several laws and regulations related to the topic, its dispersion in state legislation makes access and understanding difficult for civil society, especially for those who most need information about their rights.
For Júnior Favacho, the main objective of the proposal is to facilitate the population’s access to information about the rights and legal guarantees of people with the disorder. The Special Committee, made up of parliamentarians and experts in the field, will have the responsibility and challenge of drafting a bill that establishes the State Code for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a cohesive and executable way.
Furthermore, the deputy proposes that the Commission promote debates and public hearings to deepen knowledge on the topic, listening to civil society, professionals in the field and people with ASD and their families.
“This approach aims to contribute to the construction of more inclusive and comprehensive legislation, which effectively meets the needs of these individuals”added the deputy.
