Hardt became a substitute for former judge Sergio Moro in 2014, during the operation processes

Judge Gabriela Hardt took over the 13th Federal Court of Paraná, and will be in charge of Operation Lava Jato. The decision comes a day after the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region cautiously removed Eduardo Appio, whose conduct is being investigated. The judge is seen as disaffected by Senator Sérgio Moro and impeached deputy Deltan Dallagnol.

Hardt became a substitute for former judge Sergio Moro in 2014, during the operation’s processes. In 2019, she sentenced President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to 12 years in prison in the Atibaia site case.

The decision to remove Eduardo Appio was given after a representation made by the judge Marcelo Malucelli, who was involved in an imbroglio in the case of lawyer Tacla Duran – a former Odebrecht operator who today accuses Moro and Deltan.

The Regional Court suspects Appio’s connection with “threats” narrated by the judge’s son, lawyer João Malucelli. João is a partner at the Wolff Moro office, in Curitiba – which also includes Deputy Rosângela Moro and her husband, Senator Sergio Moro.
