Moro says that Appio is emotionally unbalanced – 05/23/2023 – Politics

Senator Sergio Moro (União Brasil-PR) and federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR) used their social networks this Tuesday (23) to comment on the removal of Judge Eduardo Appio, from the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba, responsible for the Operation Lava Jato processes in Paraná.

The removal was determined on Monday (22) by the special administrative court of the TRF-4 (Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region), when they became aware of an alleged call made by Appio in April to the son of former Lava Jato rapporteur Marcelo Malucelli, in which the trial judge pretended to be someone else. Appio does not comment on the case.

“I had never heard of, in Brazilian judicial history, a case in which the judge of a case would have called the son of a judge, who was reviewing his sentences, pretending to be a third person to collect personal data and make veiled threats. Really… “, wrote Moro, who was the judge responsible for Lava Jato until 2018.

In an interview with GloboNews during the afternoon, Moro also spoke on the subject, pointing out that the episode revealed that Judge Appio is “emotionally unbalanced” and that “he insisted on the thesis of revanchism and put his feet in his hands”.

Former TRF-4 rapporteur Marcelo Malucelli left Lava Jato cases in April after being criticized for his son’s bond with the now senator. Malucelli’s son, lawyer João Eduardo Barreto Malucelli, is a partner of senator and federal deputy Rosangela Moro (União Brasil-SP) at the Wolff Moro Sociedade de Advocacia office.

In addition, João Eduardo would be the boyfriend of the daughter of the couple of parliamentarians.

In this Tuesday’s interview, Moro also said that the first instance judge “had been issuing a series of heterodox decisions”, citing the case of Sergio Cabral and the release of R$ 35 million at the request of Antônio Palocci’s defense.

Moro also spoke about lawyer and Lava Jato defendant Rodrigo Tacla Duran. In March, Tacla Duran told Judge Appio that people close to Moro tried to extort him, repeating statements already made in 2017, and the magistrate referred the matter to the STF, due to the senator’s special jurisdiction.

“A lie repeated without any proof. The only person who gave credibility to Tacla Duran was Judge Appio. This whole story is a scam,” said Moro.

On a social network, Deltan shared the video of the recording of the phone call attributed to the removed judge and commented that “this is the new Lava Jato of Lula’s revenge government”.

“They no longer fight to fight corruption, but to take revenge on those who fight it,” wrote Deltan.
