José Genoino suggests boycott of Jewish businesses

Former PT president José Genoino suggested a boycott of companies run by Jews or linked to the state of Israel. The speech took place on Saturday (20) during a broadcast on the Diário do Centro do Mundo channel, while Genoino and the anchors of the “Sabadão DCM” program, Prof. Viaro and Fernando Drummond commented on the messages sent by viewers.

Before saying goodbye, Professor Viaro mentioned a comment that said “Free Palestine and Magazine Luiza out. My great disappointment Luiza Trajano”. At this point, Viaro explained the context of the message, criticizing the petition made by businesspeople against Brazil’s support for the investigation of Israel for genocide. The document would have been headed by Luiza Trajano, who runs the Magazine Luiza store chain.

When commenting on the fact, Genoino suggested the boycott of certain Jewish companies. “This idea of ​​rejection, this idea of ​​boycotting for political reasons, which hurts economic interests, is an interesting way. Including having this boycott of certain Jewish companies”, said the PT member.

Afterwards, the former PT president also said that the country should stop doing business with the Israeli government. “For example, there is a boycott of companies linked to the state of Israel. I even think that Brazil should cut commercial relations in the security and military areas with the state of Israel,” he said during a live broadcast.

Conib issues note repudiating Genoino’s statement

In reaction to Genoino’s speech, the Israeli Confederation of Brazil (Conib) issued a statement, repudiating the statements. “It is anti-Semitic speech, and anti-Semitism is a crime in Brazil. The Jewish boycott was one of the first measures adopted by the Nazi regime against the German Jewish community, which culminated in the Holocaust.”

In the note, Conib also asked Brazilian political leaders to act with “moderation and balance in the face of the tragic conflict in the Middle East”. “His extreme statements and in disagreement with the tradition of Brazilian foreign policy could import the tensions in that region to our country”, concludes the note.
