The government is finalizing the details to launch the National Strategy for Combating Violence in Schools by March, created by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the MEC (Ministry of Education) after discussions in a working group on the topic.

There is an effort to launch in February, but, as adjustments and final approval are lacking, the strategy should only be announced in March. The proposal, a demand from President Lula (PT), will consolidate actions to prevent cases of violence such as those recorded in March and April of last year.

Shortly after the attacks, the Ministry of Justice adopted the Safe School project, which included actions that continue to be adopted, such as monitoring threats on the internet related to possible attacks on schools and the launch of a reporting channel on the ministry’s website. Furthermore, the government continues to investigate potential episodes of violence and work with platforms to prevent and repress threats.

Last year, the government began receiving warnings of possible attacks related to the date of April 20, which coincides with the Columbine massacre, which resulted in the deaths of 15 people in the United States in 1999, and the birthday of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
