Deputy was threatened after dismantling a cockfight in the rural region of the capital

Manaus (AM) — Through her social networks, deputy Joana Darc (UB) announced, on Thursday (1st), that she filed a criminal report with the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Amazonas (PF), in the Dom Pedro neighborhood, Zona Centro -West of Manaus, against the threats and intimidation suffered by “rinheiros” (people who participate in fights), after the dismantling of a cockfight in the rural region of the capital.

Joana took the initiative after countless people, linked to the “rinheiros”, sent threatening messages on social media, due to the action that made the parliamentarian the faithful custodian of the 80 roosters rescued from the fight. In fact, she highlighted the participation of people from outside Amazonas, who brought their animals to fight to the death in dogfighting bets.

“I am the faithful custodian of these animals, because I went to help the police in this matter. I am receiving hundreds of threats on social media. The majority of those involved are outsiders, including authorities who promote this type of event. These people are instigating, especially an owner of some roosters, a network of hatred against me and my mandate”,

scored.

Remember the case

Last Saturday (27), the Amazonas Environmental Policing Battalion (BPAmb) dismantled a national cockfight in Ramal do Pau-Rosa, located on BR-174, in Amazonas, following an anonymous complaint to the Amazon Animal Protection Commission. Legislative Assembly of Amazonas (CPAMA-Aleam), chaired by deputy Joana Darc.

There, more than 80 roosters were seized and rescued by the police, resulting in the arrest of around 16 “rinheiros”. According to information collected at the scene, the organizers of the fights were from Boa Vista (RR) and charged R$ 100.00 per person for entry, with minimum bets varying from R$ 500.00 to R$ 10 thousand and R$ 20 thousand.

Condition of the animals

The roosters were in a situation of mistreatment, with chest injuries, on the wings, with hyperthermia (increase in the animal’s body temperature due to excessive exposure to the sun and heat), some were blind and without spurs. An artificial spur and dead roosters were also found at the site.

The parliamentarian assured that she will do everything possible to ensure that the animals do not return to the conditions in which they were found.

“As a deputy and protector of animals, I am doing my part and I hope to do my job in peace to guarantee the well-being of these roosters, these birds, who will never have to fight, fight and suffer mistreatment in this way again” ,

he stated.
