Janones has already called Gilmar Mendes a “scoundrel” and was not denounced by the PGR

Federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG), who supported President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) during the 2022 election campaign, has already called Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), a “scoundrel” and has not suffered any denouncement for slander or defamation.

This is what a video that began to circulate on social networks this Monday (17) shows shortly after the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) denounced Senator Sérgio Moro (União Brasil-PR) for an out-of-context speech involving habeas concessions corpus by the magistrate. The parliamentarian’s statement in a video on social media led Mendes to call the PGR to take action.

In the recording that circulated on social networks this Monday (17), Janones makes what would be a kind of “outburst” during a session of the CPI that investigated the rupture of the Vale dam in Brumadinho, in 2019 (see here). At the time, the deputy called Gilmar Mendes a “scoundrel” for having granted a habeas corpus to the former president of the company, Fabio Schvartsman, in order not to testify in the commission.

According to Janones, Schvartsman would have been appointed to the presidency of Vale by the then federal deputy Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), who would be a “personal friend” of the magistrate “as various reports and investigations have already shown”. “Big coincidences,” he said.

Soon after, the deputy said that he was against any interference by the Legislature in the Judiciary, when the creation of the Lava Toga CPI was being discussed, but that he would have changed his opinion after Gilmar Mendes’ decision.

“As of today, I am one of the biggest advocates in this country that the Lava Toga CPI be installed, that the secrecy of the ministers of the STF be broken. So that this scoundrel, Mr. Gilmar Mendes, can provide clarification,” said Janones.

Shortly after the video surfaced, federal deputy Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR), said that “the fact has the institutional weight of being an official speech by a deputy and recorded”.

“Will the PGR file a complaint with a request for arrest and revocation of mandate, as it did with Senator Sergio Moro in record time?”, he asked on social networks.

André Janones did not comment on the video.
