Janja criticizes lack of representation in the STF: “It’s really bothersome”

The first lady, Rosângela Silva, known as Janja, criticized this Monday (4) the lack of representation in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Janja said she hopes the Court will be a space occupied by more women. Currently, Minister Cármen Lúcia is the only female representative among the 11 members of the STF. In his third term, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointed two men to the Supreme Court.

“Every time I arrive at an event at the Supreme Court, I go straight to her [Cármen Lúcia]. Because I always go into that room and it’s a very masculine room and that bothers me a lot, and then I always look for Minister Cármen there. I really hope it’s a very difficult space, but I hope that soon that space will also be a space for more women”, stated Janja during the launch of the cross-cutting women’s agenda in the 2024-2027 Multi-Year Plan, the newspaper reported The globe.

Despite pressure to increase female representation in the Court, Lula nominated Cristiano Zanin and Flávio Dino. Zanini replaces minister Rosa Weber, while Dino took Ricardo Lewandowski’s place.

The 2024-2027 Multi-Year Plan, released by the Ministry of Planning and Budget, aims to reduce the difference in average labor income between men and women by 10% and reach 45.2% formalization of women in the job market.

In addition to Janja, the event was attended by STF minister Cármen Lúcia; in addition to ministers Simone Tebet (Planning), Margareth Menezes (Culture), Nísia Trindade (Health), Esther Dweck (Management and Innovation in Public Services), Luciana Santos (Science, Technology and Innovations), Marina Silva (Environment and Change in Climate), the president of Banco do Brasil, Tarciana Medeiros, and the representative of UN Women, Ana Quirino.
