The first lady, Rosângela Lula da Silva, Janja, has already blocked at least 19 profiles on the X platform (formerly Twitter) since her husband took office at the beginning of the year.
Most are bolsonaristas with a small number of followers, who at some point criticized her on the social network. Janja is very active on the internet and often makes complimentary comments about Lula’s programs.
But there is also at least one parliamentarian whose views of the first lady’s posts are restricted: state deputy Léo Siqueira (Novo-SP). He criticized Janja after she hinted that the blackout that occurred two weeks ago was related to the privatization of Eletrobras.
Another blocked profile is Iron Lady, named after former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who defends liberal ideas. The account has 1 million followers.
Janja already had the habit of blocking accounts before becoming first lady. Last year, there were at least 32 blocks—including federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP). Of these, 7 took place in November and December, when Lula was elected president.
Although she has no formal role in government, the First Lady wields great influence in her husband’s administration. The blocks occur amid a government action to release about 3,000 profiles that had been restricted by the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Sought by the Panel, the advisory of the Palácio do Planalto did not comment on the topic.
