Company revenue was inflated by R$4 million

The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) filed a complaint against Jair Renan Bolsonaro, son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, for the crimes of money laundering, ideological falsehood and use of false documents, within the scope of Operation Nexus, of the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF).

According to investigations, Jair Renan allegedly falsified the financial results of his company Bolsonaro Jr. Eventos e Mídia to obtain a loan from Banco Santander, which was not paid. The criminal complaint in the case is confidential. The financial institution also filed a lawsuit to collect the debt and obtained a favorable decision for the payment of R$360,000.

The presentation of the complaint was revealed by the newspaper O Globo and confirmed by Agência Brasil. The accusation points out that the revenue of Renan’s company was inflated to R$4 million. When contacted, the MPDFT informed that it presented a statement in the process and is awaiting a court decision. If the complaint is accepted, criminal action begins.

In February, the PCDF presented the final report of the investigation, in which it indicted Jair Renan and his shooting instructor, Maciel Alves, who have now also been charged. The indictment was for the same crimes. In August last year, the police carried out search and seizure warrants against the two.

Lawyer Admar Gonzaga, who represents Jair Renan in the case, criticized the leak of the complaint to the press. “These leaks have caused the so-called strepitus fori, which is very harmful to the defense, due process, the presumption of innocence and, therefore, the image of those who have the right to defend themselves.”

The legal expression strepitus fori refers to the embarrassment caused by the process itself, the mere existence of which already causes negative effects to the person being investigated. “Society loses its status of legality and humanity with this situation. We need to evolve,” added Gonzaga.

Agência Brasil contacted lawyer Pedrinho Villard, who represents Maciel Alves in the case. The shooting instructor’s defense said it would not comment on the presentation of the complaint.
