The latest round of promotions in the diplomatic career, announced on Friday (10), included a greater proportion of women.
According to data from Itamaraty, female diplomats accounted for 40% of promotions to first-class minister, the top of the career ladder and where ambassadors are located. The overall proportion of women at Itamaraty is currently 23%.
Of the five vacancies that were open for first class minister, two (40%) were occupied by women, who were chosen from a group of seven eligible. In other words, a success rate of 28.5%.
In the case of men, who were left with three vacancies, there were 36 candidates. In other words, a success rate of 8%.
There were 59 promotions in the current round of Itamaraty, 17 of them for women (28.8%). In the previous one, as the Panel showed, female diplomats accounted for 37.5% of promotions to first class, 31.25% of promotions to second class, 36.4% to the council and 32% to first class. secretary.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ intention is to gradually increase diversity through promotions at higher levels.
