The Itamaraty secretary for Europe and the United States, Maria Luísa Escorel, spoke by telephone this Monday (22) with the Spanish ambassador in Brazil, Mar Fernández-Palacio, to convey the displeasure of the Brazilian government to the episodes of racism suffered by the soccer player Vinícius Junior.

The ambassador was not in Brasília, which is why there was no summons, a form of protest used in diplomacy. But, by telephone, Escorel expressed his dissatisfaction with the repeated racist attacks on the player and Brazil’s expectation that measures will be taken.
