The Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap) finalizes the terms of ‘Letter from Oiapoque’the document that will be disseminated as a result of the Public Hearing that took place on Friday, in the border municipality, on oil and gas prospecting and exploration on the Equatorial Margin, the state’s territorial waters.
The information was given in the program ‘LuizMeloEntrevista’ (Diário FM 90.9)on the morning of this Monday, 22, by the state deputy Delegate Ignatius, the author of the Request that made the Public Hearing possible.
For Ignatius, the event in Oiapoque was a success, as it fulfilled the objective of giving voice to the population of the Amazon on the subject, with almost all the mayors of the state, senators, federal deputies, state deputies and indigenous leaders.
Among those present, said the deputy, there were also parliamentarians from Pará and Guyana, as well as a representative of the government of Maranhão and representatives of the National Petroleum Agency, the Brazilian Institute of Petroleum and Petrobras.
Ignatius regretted that the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) did not attend the Public Hearing, despite being invited, but that could clarify a lot of things, since the body was the one who denied carrying out studies for oil and gas exploration on the coast of Amapá.
The deputy observed that the event in the municipality of Oiapoque demystified many things, such as the information that at the meeting turned out to be unfounded that the indigenous people are against Petrobras activities on the coast. “All the indigenous leaders present at the event were favorable”, registered.
For Ignatius, there will be a change in the decision of the Ibama, since even the president Lula already declared, preparing his return to the country, that he is in favor of studies and exploration of oil and gas on the Equatorial Margin, as long as there is no risk to the mouth of the Amazon River. “And the place where Petrobras wants to operate is more than 530 kilometers from the mouth”illustrated the parliamentarian.
