Former President Michel Temer (MDB) said this Wednesday (1st) that the decision of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) to remove Judge Marcelo Bretas, responsible for Lava Jato in Rio, did not surprise him. Fear said, in note publicized on social networks, that the CNJ punished the “method” that “privileged militancy and personal ambitions to the detriment of justice”.

“The decision of the National Council of Justice, in the case of Judge Marcelo Bretas, did not surprise me at all. It was what I expected. History usually corrects the versions when they do not reflect the facts. Above all, the CNJ punished the method that, until recently in Brazil, favored militancy and personal ambitions to the detriment of justice. This is what, as a constitutionalist and former president of the Republic, reassures me”, said the former president.

In March 2019, Bretas complied with a request from the Lava Jato do Rio task force and had Temer arrested. The operation accused the emedebista of alleged crimes of corruption, embezzlement and money laundering. Temer was detained for four days at the headquarters of the Federal Police Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro.
