Investigation on projectile in Folha’s newsroom is archived – 03/27/2023 – Branch

The inquiry that investigated the perforation of one of the windows of the Newsroom of the Sheet by a projectile, on July 6 of last year, was archived by the Justice of São Paulo at the request of the Public Ministry.

According to prosecutor Maurício Salvadori, who signs the filing request, there were no conditions to determine who was responsible or whether the projectile came from a firearm.

The episode occurred around 10:30 pm that day, when the object hit one of the windows of the newsroom, on the fourth floor of the building located in the central region of São Paulo. The journalists who were at the scene heard a bang, but no one was hit.

At the time, police officers who were at the newspaper’s headquarters and began the investigation found the spherical projectile nearby. Delegate Severino Pereira Vasconcelos stated at the time that the projectile could have come from a cartridge weapon.

After the case, the Special Secretariat for Communication of the Government of São Paulo said it considered “unacceptable any type of attack or intimidation against journalists, communication vehicles and freedom of the press”.

“Responsible and independent journalism, as practiced by Folha de S.Paulois part of the essence of democracy and of the values ​​of São Paulo society,” said the ministry, which said it monitors the work of the Civil Police’s intelligence area.
