Tefé joins seven other municipalities that received the program from the Government of Amazonas

The Government of Amazonas announced, during Saturday (16), the new hub of the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci) in the municipality of Tefé, in the interior of Amazonas. The event took place at Ginásio Walter Cabral, with the presence of new athletes and local residents.

“By bringing Pelci to Tefé, we are not just promoting physical activities and leisure, we are investing in the future of our young people. We are opening doors so that children and teenagers can dream bigger. We are ensuring that sport is a vehicle for social transformation, education and quality of life for many Amazonians”, said Jorge Oliveira, secretary of Sedel.

Serving the Médio Solimões region, the new hub will provide more than 500 places that will benefit children and teenagers, aged between 7 and 17. The new athletes received personalized uniforms from the program and equipment such as balls and nets, which will help in the development of field football, futsal, basketball, skateboarding and jiu-jitsu.

“We have determination from Governor Wilson Lima and Secretary Jorge Oliveira, who are sparing no effort to reach all municipalities and today we arrived in Tefé, certainly a municipality that breathes sport. The Pelci project is entering its eighth municipality and we will certainly seek to reveal several athletes so that they can emerge on the national scene”, highlighted Eric Tinoco, Pelci manager.

Launched in 2022, Pelci aims to encourage athletes from the grassroots to the professional level and has already benefited more than 15 thousand athletes in Amazonas, being considered the largest socio-sporting program in Brazil. Born in Tefé, weightlifting athlete Maria de Fátima, who is very close to a place in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, was very excited about the possibility of developing local talent.

“I would like to thank the State Government and say that I am very happy to be here representing my city, my origins, living my world. Pelci is here to offer opportunities to young people, who knows, maybe an international athlete will emerge from here in the future. I left. Why can’t another one come out too? ”, exalted Maria de Fátima.

Promoting sporting activities in the interior of the state has been a priority for the Government of Amazonas, as part of a strategy aimed at promoting quality of life, social inclusion and detecting potential sporting talents.
