President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met this Wednesday (25) with Uruguayan President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou in Montevideo, Uruguay. During the meeting, where topics such as Mercosur and infrastructure agreements between the two countries were discussed, Lula (PT) stated that during his government Brazil experienced the best political and economic period in all of Latin America, but that almost all of this was “destroyed” by recent governments.

“We are certainly experiencing the best political and economic period in all of South America. It was the decade with the greatest generation of jobs, increase in wages and economic growth”, stated Lula. According to the Brazilian president, we are currently living in a different decade.

“I inherited, Lacalle, a semi-destroyed country”, he said, stating that this is a challenge that obliges him to set goals. “Almost everything we did for social benefit in my country, in 13 years of government, was destroyed in six years. Or rather, in seven years. Three from the coup leader Michel Temer (MDB) and four from the Bolsonaro government,” said Lula.
