The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), must deliver to the PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) a second representation against another 23 people involved in the invasion of the National Congress, on January 8th.
The invaders are on the loose and were identified by the Senate Police Secretariat based on images from the building’s security cameras. The names of the vandals were not released.
Five days after the attack on the headquarters of the Three Powers, Pacheco suggested to the Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, that the vandals who invaded the Senate and were arrested in flagrante delicto be arrested in preventive custody and blocked.
From that, last week, the Attorney General’s Office filed a complaint against 39 people suspected of involvement in coup acts and depredation in the building.
In total, 44 people were arrested red-handed by the Legislative Police on January 8 — 39 by Senate police and five by Chamber of Deputy police.
The PGR framed the coup plotters in the crimes of armed criminal association, violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law, coup d’état, damage and deterioration of listed public property.
In the Senate, the damage is estimated at around R$ 4 million. Most of the broken glass and mirrors in the Salão Azul have already been replaced. The main door of the plenary, shattered by the invaders, was also replaced.
The carpet in the Salão Azul, which was soaked with the use of fire hoses, should be replaced at the end of February. Cleaning staff are still trying to recover the floor of the Main Hall.
The House is racing against time to repair most of the damage until the inauguration of the 27 elected senators, on February 1st. Each of those sworn in will be entitled to invite up to 45 people to the ceremony.
