A National Office of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (CNMP) announced this week that it will carry out a kind of internal audit in the units of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) of Paraná during the month of July. The so-called “extraordinary corrections”, scheduled for the 12th, 13th and 14th of July, should investigate acts related to the Java Jato operation.

In May, the National Council of Justice (CNJ) had already carried out an inspection at the 13th Federal Court of Justice in Curitiba, the birthplace of Lava Jato. Among other reasons, the inspection at the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba and at TRF4 was due to the removal of Judge Eduardo Appio from conducting Lava Jato proceedings, on suspicion of violating legal rules. Appio was accused of informally investigating the judge of the TRF4, Marcelo Malucelli.

The symmetry between the procedures was confirmed by the CNMP. According to the National Inspectorate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Councilor Oswaldo D’Albuquerque “is responsible for the National Internal Affairs Office to carry out corrections, including ex officio, with a view to investigating facts related to the Public Prosecutor’s Office services, in all areas of activity, whether or not there are evidence of irregularity, as provided for in art. 18, item VII, of the Internal Regulations of the CNMP, which is precisely what is aimed at in the current situation, as recently carried out by the CNJ”.
