‘I’m not a judge and I want Bolsonaro’s support’, says Nunes – 08/23/2023 – Politics

The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said this Wednesday (23) that he maintains the desire to support Jair Bolsonaro (PL), when asked about the weight of investigations against the former president in conversations between the two for the 2024 elections.

The statement was given after the opening event of the Expo Fenabrave congress, in the vehicle sector, which was also attended by Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

“I am mayor, I am ‘prefecting’. I am not a judge, minister of the STF, of the STJ, I am not a policeman”, he said, when asked about the investigations that focus on the former president.

Bolsonaro has been worn down by investigations involving the jewelry case and coup attacks.

Recently, it came to light that the former president asked a businessman to pass on “to the maximum” a message that suggested, without evidence, a fraud by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). He also saw his digital popularity collapse after an operation by the Federal Police that carried out steps to investigate an alleged jewel embezzlement scheme.

Nunes said that the one who has to answer for the matter is the former president, he praised him and was quite emphatic in saying that he wants his support. “Just to make it clear, the issue of President Bolsonaro, I want the support of President Bolsonaro. And of Governor Tarcísio, of the PP, of the PL, I am not here to work on thesis, with futurology”, he said.

The mayor also praised Bolsonaro’s performance due to an agreement between the city of São Paulo and the federal government, which reduced the capital’s debt with the Union. “I am very grateful to President Bolsonaro for what he has done for the city of São Paulo. I took out a city debt of R$ 24 billion, I paid R$ 280 million a month in debt with the federal government”, he said.

In recent months, the two have been talking about possible backing. The theme, however, had not been advancing due to the need to choose the vice-president of the list.

The mayor stated that the PL has great weight due to the size of the party, which has the most air time, but that the matter will be decided together with all the allies.

Nunes and Tarcísio exchanged compliments on stage during their speeches. The mayor said, with a joking tone, that the governor did not publicly support him either.

“He praises me everywhere, but he never said it like this: my candidate is Ricardo”, he said.

The governor left without speaking to the press at the event.

Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), vice-president and currently replacing Lula in the Presidency due to the incumbent’s trip abroad, also attended the event.

Before the opening, he spoke with the management of Fenabrave (National Federation of Automotive Vehicles Distribution). At the opening of the event, a recorded conversation between Alckmin and the president of the association, José Maurício Andreta Júnio, was broadcast.
