The president of IBAMA, Rodrigo Agostinho, denied, on the night of this Wednesday (17), a license requested by the Petrobras to drill the FZA-M-59 block, in the Foz do Amazonas basin, considered the “new pre-salt” from the country.
“There can be no doubt that every opportunity was offered to the Petrobras to remedy critical points of its project, but that it still presents worrying inconsistencies for the safe operation in a new exploratory frontier of high socio-environmental vulnerability”he said Augustine in an official note.
The note informs that the president of the IBAMA monitored the technical team’s understanding of the “the need to resume actions that are incumbent on the environmental area to ensure that an Environmental Assessment of the Sedimentary Area is carried out (AAAS) for sedimentary basins that do not yet have such studies and that do not yet have oil exploration, as soon as possible”.
