While carrying out an investigation by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of the Landless Workers Movement, on a farm that had been invaded in Goiás, this Monday (14th), federal deputy Gustavo Gayer (PL-GO) was harassed by demonstrators without Earth. In a video posted on social media, he said it was a “fake camp” and “militants pretending to be farmers”.
Gayer also denounces the invasion and “the articulation and instrumentalization of poverty”. As they approached Gayer, MST members shouted “coup plotters will not pass”, uttered some curses, but did not go so far as to attack him.
The parliamentarians’ visit took place at a farm in Hidrolândia, Goiás, and is part of the external agenda of the MST’s CPI to collect information that will be used in the commission’s report.
In July of this year, the MST took advantage of the parliamentary recess – and the consequent pause in the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) of land invasions – to attack farms in Goiás and Pernambuco. The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture released a statement in which it does not condemn the invasion and speaks of “the social function of property”
