Lídia Frota, TRE/AM ombudsman, takes office at the Electoral Justice Ombudsman College

Lídia assumed the position of 1st secretary

Brasilia DF) – In a ceremony held at the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), on the 7th in Brasilia, the ombudsman for women and assistant judge of the presidency of the Regional Electoral Court (TRE/AM), Dr. Lídia de Abreu Carvalho Frota, took office in the College of Electoral Justice Ombudsmen (Coje), assuming the post of 1st secretary.

With Dr. Márcio Antônio de Souza Moraes Júnior, the ombudsman of the Regional Electoral Court of Goiás (TRE-GO), as president, the ombudsman of TRE/AM joins other ombudsmen at the College of Ombudsmen of Coje: Dr Willian Medeiros de Quadros , from TRE/SC (vice president), Dr Anna Graziella Santana Neiva Costa, from TRE/MA (2nd secretary) and Dr Allan Tinonelli Nunes, from TRE/RJ (3rd secretary).

For Dr. Lídia Abreu Carvalho, it is with great honor and joy that she assumes this position of such relevance at the national level, assuming the commitment to exercise it with hard work and dedication in favor of society.

I congratulate the president, Dr Márcio Antônio de Souza Moraes Júnior, and the other ombudsman colleagues who, along with me, assumed their positions. That together we can walk a path of success and achievements. I also thank every friend and family member who attended the inauguration. May I continue working and honoring the trust placed in me. We are building a free, fair and solidary society”,

declared the newly sworn-in member of the College of Ombudsmen for Electoral Justice.

On the occasion, she gave special thanks to the members of her original body, the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas.

“I also thank my house, TRE/AM, through its president, Judge Jorge Lins: thank you very much, because I know that the victory came from trust in my work, as I also thank Dr Melissa Lavareda, general director of TRE do Amazonas, and to the General Ombudsman of the Court, Judge Pedro de Araújo Ribeiro”,

said Dr. Lídia.

Ombudsman: voices of citizens

In his inauguration speech, Márcio Moraes highlighted the importance of the ombudsman’s work.

“It is increasingly important that the ombudsman not only receive, but seek to listen to the often muffled voices of citizens, especially the most vulnerable or underprivileged. Listening programs that move to the most distant corners of the country, seeking those people most marginalized from public service attention, give real effectiveness to democratic precepts”,

declared Mario.

The College of Electoral Justice Ombudsmen, founded on September 16, 2011 in the city of Fortaleza, state of Ceará, is a civil society, nationwide, non-profit, made up of the Ombudsmen of the Electoral Courts.

Electoral Ombudsmen act permanently, internally and externally, in the defense of citizenship and as a channel for dialogue between the community and the Electoral Justice. Its basic attributions are: to receive complaints, requests for information, suggestions, criticisms and compliments from users of the Electoral Justice services.

The election of the president and his board of directors was carried out by vote among the members, during the members’ meeting on 5 July. The mandate lasts for one year.
