More than 39,000 fans went to the Arena Grêmio, this Saturday afternoon, and were also moved by the hard-fought conquest of the vacancy. The goals came in the second half. Mossoró opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with a shot from afar that deflected off the path. Then Thaciano and Bruno Alves scored with a header for Grêmio.
Right at the start of the penalties, Reinaldo kicked the post for Grêmio and Gedeílson also for Ypiranga. Then Cristaldo, Bitello and Luis Suarez hit for the tricolor, while Mossoró and Erick scored for the visitor, who lost in a shot by Ralph and saved by Adriel. The experienced Diego Souza could close the series and the dispute at 4-2, but he kicked the post and allowed the tie by 3-3 with goalkeeper Caíque kicking very hard.
In the alternate dispute, Bruno Alves and Gustavinho scored for Grêmio, while Ronald scored, however, Jhonatan Ribeiro’s shot ended up in the hands of Adriel, the hero of this semifinal game. Rain, goalkeeper shine and Grêmio vs Ypiranga decision on penalties
Even in the rain, the tricolor fans did not lose their enthusiasm to push the team to victory. But on the field, Grêmio traded the necessary speed for a lot of precipitation. So much so that it did not arrive in good finishing conditions. Uruguayan Luis Suárez himself tried to score four times, but only hit once when goalkeeper Caíque made the save.
Each team lost a player too early. Defender Windson, who was doubtful before the game, felt injured and gave way to Ronaldo, in the ninth minute. Striker Ferreira, from Grêmio, was also injured and left for Zinho to enter, in the 16th minute.
On the return of the second half, Renato Gaúcho put midfielder Thiago Santos in place of midfielder Everton Galdino, perhaps, to try to reinforce the midfield sector. Synonymous with a goal, Luis Suárez was the crowd’s hope and made his first move four minutes in, when he entered the area from the left and, without an angle, shot over goalkeeper Caíque. Two minutes later, launched at the back of the defense, he tried for coverage, but the ball went high and went well over the crossbar.
The worst for Grêmio happened in the seventh minute, when Ypiranga scored. Bruno Alves made a mistake and the ball stayed with Mossoró who risked the shot from afar. After a detour on defender Bruno Uvini, the ball ended up in Adriel’s angle: 1 to 0. The expectation was to know how Grêmio would react emotionally. The crowd soon showed their dissatisfaction, booing Thiago Santos whenever he caught the ball.
But with the entry of Thiago Santos, fixed in front of the defenders, Thaciano started to have more freedom to touch the attackers. And Thaciano scored the equalizer in the 15th minute. Bitello, on the right side, rose high in the middle of the area and Thaciano anticipated goalkeeper Caíque to head the ball into the net.
Caíque recovered from the mistake in the 19th minute, when he made a great save after a point-blank shot by Suárez. Afterwards, the goalkeeper shone when he slapped the ball high and deflected a ball kicked by Suárez in the 22nd minute. Then, Renato Gaúcho risked everything by fielding two players who were unable to play more than half-time. Striker Diego Souza replaced Vina and Cristaldo in the place of Thiago Santos, who played only 23 minutes.
Grêmio pushed Ypiranga into their defense and reached the turnaround in the 32nd minute, again with a header. On the left side, Reinaldo made the lift in a curve, Thaciano did not reach it, but Bruno Alves appeared behind him to head and score: 2 to 1.
The last few minutes were tense, with Grêmio trying to score another goal and Ypiranga defending. The referee gave just five minutes of added time, which irritated Renato Gaúcho, because he didn’t give his team time to avoid penalty kicks. Then luck helped: 5 to 4 after 14 charges.
