Governor Clécio participates in the opening of the Peixe Popular Program – News of Brazil

The governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, was on the morning of this Wednesday, 27th, following the start of the program’s activities “Popular Fish”, which aims to promote the sale of fish at affordable prices for the population, during Holy Week. This is an action that is part of the Government Plan for economic development in the most diverse areas of the productive sector.

“The consumption of fish at this time of year is a tradition, and we have worked hard to align incentives such as transport, structure and others, to offer a lower price, mainly so that the neediest population can guarantee fish during this period”highlighted the governor.

The sale, which continues until Friday, the 29th, offers more than 50 tons of live, chilled and frozen fish, with a price range of R$10 to R$20. The program is coordinated in partnership by the State Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sepaq) and Secretariat for Rural Development (SDR).

13 points were made available for selling fish, in four municipalities, 8 in Macapá, 3 in Santana and 1 in Itaubal and Serra do Navio, operating from 7am to 8pm. On Friday the 29th, sales close at 1pm.

“This year we are in four municipalities, but our idea is to take the Peixe Popular program throughout the state during Holy Week. Now this action will also take place during the year at other times and in this way value our entrepreneurs, generating jobs and promoting the economy”added the governor, who took the opportunity to purchase Holy Week fish.

In total, the program is offering approximately 80 tons of fish, generating around 150 direct and indirect jobs, including vendors, fish handlers, vegetable sellers and others.

“The program does not only guarantee income for the fish seller, but there is a whole chain of income that goes from the purchase of ice, packaging and even the people who stay around the sales areas to treat the fish, sell the lemon and other activities. All of this generates income and is what we always seek to improve or help our population”highlighted the Secretary of Fisheries, Paulo Nogueira.

Live fish

The Government of Amapá, together with producers served by the Integrated Food Production Program (PPI) and already with production, which was promoted by the State, are also selling around 20 tons of live fish. The cost is R$13, for tambaqui and pirapitinga species.
