The governor of Amapá, Clécio Luís, participates this Thursday, 28th, in the meeting between Brazil and France, in Brasília – DF, which is part of the schedule of the official visit of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to the country. With 700 kilometers long, Amapá is the Brazilian state that has the longest border with the European country, through French Guiana.
“Last year we resumed relations with France, through the Oiapoque River Council and the Brazil-France Mixed Cross-Border Commission, which deal with border issues between sister populations. We have already made progress on some issues, and with the visit of the French president to Brazil, which symbolizes this union, I am sure that we will achieve even greater benefits for both countries, especially for the state of Amapá”, highlighted the governor.
The president of France has been in Brazil since Tuesday, 26th, and has already completed agendas in Belém, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, where he discussed the UN Climate Conference in the Amazon in 2025, COP30; participated in the launch of the Tonelero submarine (S42) and in the Brazil-France Economic Forum, at Fiesp.
In Brasília, presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Emmanuel Macron will debate global challenges, especially those involving the Amazon, such as the protection of biodiversity, ecological transition and decarbonization of economies. In addition to bilateral investments.
As part of the program, governor Clécio Luís also participates in the meeting between the president of France and the president of the National Congress, senator Rodrigo Pacheco.

Cross-Border Commission
In 2023, after 4 years, the Brazil/France Mixed Cross-Border Cooperation Commission had face-to-face activities resumed, under the coordination of the Government of Amapá, through the coordination of the State Secretariat for International Relations and Foreign Trade in partnership with Itamaraty.
Brazil is present, with the governor, Clécio Luís; the head of the Europe Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Flavio Goldman; and the delegations from the State of Amapá and the Federal Government.
The meeting dealt with demands in the areas of health, education, environment, commercial and diplomatic relations, the BR-156 highway, among other issues that impact the lives of those who live on both sides of the border.
Oiapoque River Council
The Government of Amapá held, in March this year, the 6th Meeting of the Oiapoque River Council, which heard demands from the populations of the border region between Brazil and France. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Brazilian Army, in the village of Clevelândia do Norte, and brought together authorities and residents from both sides who, together, defined seven proposals for improvements to health, the environment and economic development in the region.
The suggestions will be submitted for evaluation by the Brazilian and French governments in 2024, at the 13th Meeting of the Mixed Cross-Border Cooperation Commission (CMT), which will be held in Macapá.
