In search of new partnerships that promote sustainable development, Amapá increasingly strengthens ties with other countries. During Startup20, which transformed the Amazonian state into the world headquarters for innovation and technology, the governor Clécio Luís presented local potential to representatives of the Minority Business Development Agency, linked to the United States Department of Commerce.
The Americans work in the state of Hawaii and are experts in entrepreneurship in the context of minority groups, encouraging the strength and growth of small businesses. To the governor, the group shared that they started thinking about solutions to promote new sustainable businesses in Amapá, welcoming young people and providing development perspectives.

Clécio Luís explained to the Americans that the Government of Amapá encourages economic growth combined with environmental preservation. At the Startup20 Bioeconomy Pavilion, the public had the opportunity to meet Amapá enterprises that develop activities in a sustainable way.
“The environmental assets that Amapá has can be transformed into economic assets. We believe that one of the ways to generate development is to keep the forest standing, with technological innovation and behavioral innovation. For us, startups are a way to create sustainable businesses, with green and ethical jobs. Meetings like these inspire our entrepreneurs”highlighted governor Clécio Luís.
Bioeconomy
Representatives from the United States met entrepreneurs at the Bioeconomy Fair during Startup20, and were enchanted by Amapá and the people’s relationship with their ancestry.
“We spoke with the governor of Amapá about opportunities for mutual assistance to develop businesses in the region, while keeping the ecology safe. We understand people’s relationship with faith and the forest. It was wonderful, just like this place is”described Artur Martirosiano, MBDA Business Development specialist.
The Business Center is partnered with the University of Hawaii, funded by the United States Department of Commerce, and is part of a network that promotes the establishment and growth of minority-owned businesses.
“We will definitely return to Amapá. We have good plans and we cultivate some good ideas here, as we are able to share many good things”reinforced Chuck Lopez, MBDA Business Development specialist.
Promoted by the Brazilian Startups Association (Abstartups) in partnership with the Government of the State of Amapá and Sebrae, Startup20 brought together authorities, representatives and businesspeople from several countries to debate alternatives for the planet.
With an office installed at Startup20, governor Clécio Luís strengthened dialogue with other foreign delegations, such as Germany and South Africa.
