Government of Amapá creates Racial Equality Forum to strengthen public policies for the black population – News of Brazil

To strengthen actions to recognize the Afro-descendant and traditional population, the Government of Amapá established, on Saturday the 25th, the State Forum of Managers for the Promotion of Racial Equality. The initiative, formed by representatives of public bodies, the 16 municipalities and civil society institutions, will work in search of affirmative and egalitarian public policies in Amapá society.
“The forum was created with the aim of formulating joint policies to promote racial equality and encourage the municipalization of actions. This union is very important, so that in the interior of the state, a municipality can hold events for its Afro-descendant population, much more impactful and strengthened”highlighted the vice-governor, Teles Junior.
In Amapá, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 73.7% of the population declares itself to be black, which places the state first in Brazil, with the highest percentage of proportionally black inhabitants.
For the president of the Mara Baixo Foundation, Joselana Santos, the institution of the forum was a historic moment, a victory in the fight for equality and for management, which values and prioritizes the policy of equity in all fields of society. One of the commitments made by the governor Clécio Luís.
“The forum is a struggle and a desire of the social movement and many of those who represent municipal administrations today are activists. These are the warriors who lead the cities with all the pain and satisfaction. So proud to be able to build a new chapter in this story. The institution of the forum is an implementation of public policy, assumed by governor Clécio and vice-governor Teles Júnior”, he said Joselana.
Responsible for coordinating policies to promote racial equality in all municipalities, the forum also aims to combat, for example, institutional racism. Senator Randolfe highlighted the importance of the movement.
“Ten years ago, we were the third black state in the country. Proportionally, among all states in the Brazilian federation, we were the third with the highest number of black people. We were, because according to this week’s IBGE data, we are the largest black state in the country, proportionally to its population. Hence the importance of the forum, which starts to operate in Amapá”, highlighted the senator, Randolfe Rodrigues.
