Government of AM participates in meeting on housing and basic sanitation in Brasília

The Government of Amazonas participates, in Brasília, represented by the secretary of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Marcellus Campêlo, in the 52nd Ordinary Meeting of the National Council of Cities (ConCidades), an event that takes place this Wednesday (20) and Thursday (21). On the agenda, topics such as social housing and the promotion of basic sanitation in the country.

Representative of the Government of Amazonas on the Municipality Sanitation Committee, the secretary explains that, on the first day, there will be a meeting to discuss the National Social Housing Fund.

“The topic is very important, because the Fund aims to combat the housing deficit for low-income and socially vulnerable populations. The State Government has a large program in this segment, Amazonas Meu Lar, which aims to offer 24,044 housing solutions for this population”,

he stated.

On the second day, the debate will be about promoting the area of ​​basic sanitation. According to Marcellus Campêlo, part of the Committee works with the idea of ​​strengthening state-owned companies in the sector and others defend greater participation by the private sector, in order to sustain investment.

“In Amazonas, we are working to create the Basic Sanitation Microregion, with the aim of attracting investments and uniting the state, municipalities and private sector. We want to leverage resources so that we can universalize water and sewage services in the interior”,

stressed the secretary, adding that the goal of the Legal Framework for Basic Sanitation is to reach 99% of the population with drinking water and 90% with sewage collection and treatment by 2033.

About ConCidades

The Council is a collegiate body of a deliberative and consultative nature, part of the structure of the Ministry of Cities. It is chaired by the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho.

ConCidades’ main function is to deal with topics such as housing, periphery, basic sanitation, urban mobility, drainage, solid waste and master plans, aiming at the development of Brazilian cities.

It plays an important role as an instrument of democratic management of the National Urban Development Policy (PNDU), and enables continuous discussion around urban policies, taking into account the autonomy and particularities of the different sectors involved.

The Amazonas Meu Lar Program integrates the housing and land policies of the Government of Amazonas, under the coordination of the State Secretariat for Urban and Metropolitan Development (Sedurb) and execution by UGPE, State Housing Superintendence (Suhab) and Secretariat of Cities and Territories of the State of Amazonas (Sect).

The goal is to offer 24,044 housing solutions and regularize 33 thousand properties. The program is estimated at R$4.7 billion, including investment from the State Government, resources from the FGTS and the Residential Lease Fund (FAR).
