Parliamentarians from the Lula government’s base celebrated on Wednesday night (13) the approval of the nomination of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Dino was approved by the Senate plenary by 47 votes to 31. The government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), stated that “Brazil emerges victorious” after Dino’s approval.

Judge, deputy, governor, elected senator and Minister of Justice who acted firmly in the face of one of the most dramatic threats to democracy in the country’s history. The Constitution and the rights it guarantees have gained a great defender in the STF”, said Gleisi on the X social network.

The government leader in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE), said that Dino “has notorious legal knowledge, values ​​compliance with the Constitution and harmony between the powers”. Federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) also congratulated Dino on the approval.

“After more than 10 hours of hearings and once again proving himself to be a great jurist, Flávio Dino is the new minister of the STF. I am sure that he will play a fundamental role in defending our democratic rule of law”, stated Janones. Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) stated that Dino “brings together all the qualities to take up a position in the Supreme Court and do a great job”.

In addition to Dino, the Senate also approved the appointment of Paulo Gonet to head the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). Gonet achieved a greater margin than the new Supreme Court minister: there were 65 votes in favor, 11 against and there was one abstention. The vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), greeted Dino and Gonet.

“Men of unquestionable legal knowledge will do a great job in defending our Democratic Rule of Law, guaranteeing the stability of institutions built with so much effort by the Brazilian people and their representatives”, said Alckmin.
