Government members celebrate Dino’s approval for a vacancy on the STF: “Brazil emerges victorious”

Parliamentarians from the Lula government’s base celebrated on Wednesday night (13) the approval of the nomination of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Dino was approved by the Senate plenary by 47 votes to 31. The government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), stated that “Brazil emerges victorious” after Dino’s approval.

“Brazil emerges victorious with a new minister who will work to strengthen our democracy and defend fundamental rights! His remarkable legal knowledge was more than proven in today’s hearing. The Judiciary gains back one of the greats!”, said Randolfe.

The national president of the PT, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), declared that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was “very happy” in appointing the Minister of Justice to the STF. “It was a very happy appointment by President Lula, based on his career full of merits. Judge, deputy, governor, elected senator and Minister of Justice who acted firmly in the face of one of the most dramatic threats to democracy in the country’s history. The Constitution and the rights it guarantees have gained a great defender in the STF”, said Gleisi on the X social network.

The government leader in the Chamber, José Guimarães (PT-CE), said that Dino “has notorious legal knowledge, values ​​compliance with the Constitution and harmony between the powers”. Federal deputy André Janones (Avante-MG) also congratulated Dino on the approval.

“After more than 10 hours of hearings and once again proving himself to be a great jurist, Flávio Dino is the new minister of the STF. I am sure that he will play a fundamental role in defending our democratic rule of law”, stated Janones. Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) stated that Dino “brings together all the qualities to take up a position in the Supreme Court and do a great job”.

Government officials also celebrated Gonet’s approval

In addition to Dino, the Senate also approved the appointment of Paulo Gonet to head the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). Gonet achieved a greater margin than the new Supreme Court minister: there were 65 votes in favor, 11 against and there was one abstention. The vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), greeted Dino and Gonet.

“Men of unquestionable legal knowledge will do a great job in defending our Democratic Rule of Law, guaranteeing the stability of institutions built with so much effort by the Brazilian people and their representatives”, said Alckmin.

The Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, stated that Gonet “dedicated his professional life to the study of Law, especially Constitutional Law.” “His trajectory in the academic world and in the Public Ministry are recognized by his peers and by professionals from other areas of Law, so that the Senate approved the name of a respected jurist to head one of the most important institutions in the country, the Public Ministry of the Union “, added the AGU.

Messias highlighted that “Dino has all the attributes to fulfill his role on the Supreme Court very well” and “has great political sensitivity and commitment to Brazil and the highest human and social values.”

The Chief Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, also celebrated the two approvals. He stated that Gonet “has the necessary credentials to be at the head of the PGR”. For Costa, Flávio Dino’s “history and competence will be a great contribution to the Court”.
