Government expects silence in barracks 60 years after coup – 02/03/2024 – Panel
[ad_1]
The Lula government is confident that the 60th anniversary of the 1964 military coup, on March 31st, will take place in the same way as last year in the barracks: in complete silence.
Due to the fact that this year’s anniversary is a round number, the theme tends to be remembered with more enthusiasm by those nostalgic for the coup, who are numerous among military personnel who are in tune with Bolsonarism.
In the government, however, the assessment is that the determination given by the Minister of Defense, José Múcio, last year, that there be no events on military installations is sufficient for the same to happen in 2024.
A fact always remembered by Múcio’s assistants is that events marking March 31st were never a tradition in the barracks, at least during the democratic period. The person who instituted this practice was former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In other words, the current guidance is just a return to normality.
