Google must delete reports in which Spiller cites Melhem – 04/26/2023 – Politics

The Justice of Rio de Janeiro determined that Google remove from the air, within 48 hours, links with reports that addressed the interview of actress Letícia Spiller to the program Reclame na Play, in December 2020. On the occasion, she spoke about the complaints of sexual harassment involving comedian Marcius Melhem.

If it does not comply with the decision of the 21st Chamber of Private Law, announced this Tuesday (25) and taken by five judges (including the rapporteur) at the request of Spiller’s defense, the company will have to pay a fine of R$ 10,000 per hour. Sought, Google said it would not manifest.

In the program, which is broadcast on Youtube, presenter Bruna Calmon asked the actress about the accusations of sexual harassment involving Melhem.

Letícia stated that the possible victim of harassment would have taken time to make the complaint, contributing to Melhem becoming, in the eyes of public opinion, “the guy”. The reporter complements Letícia’s speech: “The martyr”. And Spiller replies in the affirmative: “Hey, the martyr, of this situation.”

The actress also declared that she knew the former director and that he seemed to be a “very dear” and “good-hearted” person.

The day after the interview, according to the actress, several media would have conveyed “distorted and biased information, with the clear intention of creating controversy, involving her name and making it seem that she was defending the comedian”, says an excerpt from the decision.

The text also highlights that Spiller claimed that his Instagram page was taken over by hateful comments as a result of the reports.

The rapporteur for the judgment, Gabriel de Oliveira Zefiro, said that the actress at no time defended Melhem in the statements made during the interview, nor did she criticize the conduct of potential victims of harassment.

“On the contrary, the aggravating factor only signaled the importance of denouncing sexual abuse as quickly as possible, precisely considering the difficulty of proving conduct like this, which usually occurs without the presence of witnesses, in addition to social prejudice, notably of an order sexist, which make it difficult to correctly elucidate the facts,” he said.
