The Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Luís Roberto Barroso was drawn this Wednesday (26) to report on the habeas corpus filed by the defense of the former Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District Anderson Torres. The lottery was carried out electronically among ten Justices of the Court.

Due to the retirement of Ricardo Lewandowski, the Court does not have the vote of the 11th minister. There is no deadline for a decision, informed Agência Brasil. In the request, Torres’ defense questions the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who, last week, rejected the release.

Torres has been held in a Federal District Military Police battalion since January 14. The former minister is investigated in the STF inquiry that investigates his alleged failure to contain the acts of January 8. In the habeas corpus, the lawyers cited the health status of the former minister and spoke of the risk of suicide.

According to the defense, medical reports drawn up after examinations carried out in prison show that Torres is having an anxiety attack, speaking nonsense words and commenting on his “dismay with maintaining his life”. By maintaining the arrest of Anderson Torres, Moraes understood that the need for arrest continues due to “strong indications that the former minister was colluding with the criminal association” that acted in the coup acts.
