Manaus (AM) – Municipal Law No. 3,011, of January 10, 2023, authored by Councilwoman Glória Carratte (PL), which establishes the Municipal Week for the Empowerment of Girls and Adolescents, in the Official Calendar, to be celebrated annually in October, during the week of the 11th.
One of the objectives is to encourage the holding of events that seek to promote socio-educational and preventive actions related to the rights of girls and adolescents, as well as to recognize the need to expand strategies to eliminate social inequalities in the city of Manaus, related to the theme.
The empowerment of girls is part of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN), defined in 2015, which aim to guide national policies and international cooperation activities to ensure the full development of millions of girls around the world.
Glória Carratte explains that access to education allows teenagers to break a cycle of poverty.
“When adolescent girls are empowered and have access to a comprehensive education, the cycle of poverty is broken. Professionalized, they get married later, take better care of their health and the education of their children and that way everyone benefits from this process”,
ended the parliament.
