President of the PT, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann states that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) “really was and is afraid of being arrested” and says that “it is good for the courts to keep an eye on him”.

The PT member makes her assessment based on a report in The New York Times that states that Bolsonaro stayed at the Hungarian embassy in Brasília for two days in February, shortly after the Federal Police operation that seized his passport.

The president of the PT tells the Panel that the visit to the Hungarian embassy makes “very clear” the former president’s fear of arrest and that “it is possible that he will try again”.

The former president’s defense claims that he stayed at the embassy only to maintain contact with foreign authorities.

This Monday (25), federal deputies contacted the Attorney General’s Office and the Federal Supreme Court with requests for preventive detention of the former president.

“The former president’s stay, for two days, at the Hungarian embassy, suggests a clear attempt to pave the way for possible escape or foreign protection, as investigations are deepened and the signs and evidence capable of substantiating not just precautionary measures (prison), but also a future criminal conviction”, states a representation sent by federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) to the Attorney General’s Office.

As shown by Sheet, the PF will investigate the case. According to corporate investigators, it is too early to say whether there was an escape attempt, but it is necessary to investigate the veracity and motivation of the former president staying at the embassy.
