The German Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, said this weekend that the country intends to donate more than 200 million Euros (R$ 1.1 billion) to form part of the Amazon Fund, conservation of forests and mitigation of climate changes. The statement was made in an interview with Folha de São Paulo.

According to Svenja Schulze, the money will also be used for actions aimed at the situation of the Yanomami people and to “resolve the social divide, because we are sure that climate protection does not work without solving social problems”, he said.

The new donation of BRL 1.1 billion comes just over two months after Germany donated EUR 35 million (BRL 194 million) to the Brazilian government shortly after the presidential elections.

In addition to resources aimed at socio-environmental actions, the minister stated that the German government intends to invest in agriculture and green hydrogen. “That’s why we are already interested in good relations, because this in the future could be very interesting for everyone, including us, when Brazil starts to produce green hydrogen on a large scale”, said Schulze.

The visit of the German Minister Svenja Schulze is the third of a representative of the country to Brazil since the election of President Lula, who will also have the presence of Chancellor Olaf Scholz this Monday afternoon (30).
