A field invasion, followed by a general fight between fans of Coritiba and Cruzeiro interrupted the match between the two teams this Saturday afternoon (11), at the Vila Capanema stadium, in the capital of Paraná.

The confusion began in stoppage time of the second half, when Robson opened the scoring for the home team, completing a cross from a free kick. Immediately afterwards, while the players were still celebrating, part of the Cruzeiro fans invaded the pitch.

Frightened, the players left the field, but Coritiba fans, in greater numbers, also went to the pitch to fight with the miners. They exchanged punches and kicks for a few minutes, until security forces dispersed them.

A fan had to be treated in the stands and was taken away on a stretcher by the medical team.

The match was momentarily suspended by referee Bráulio da Silva Machado. After the fans were removed from the stadium, the referee decided to resume the match. There were still six minutes to play. The game resumed about half an hour later. The remaining time was played, with no change in the score, which remained 1-0 for Coritiba.

At the end of the match, striker Robson, who scored the only goal, told Premiere that the invasion was “something sad to see”. Cruzeiro’s goalkeeper, Rafael said he was saddened by the invasion, but that he would not comment further on the matter. “But what am I going to say? If I say too much, I’ll still harm myself,” he said, also on the channel.

The two clubs are fighting against relegation in the Brazilian Championship. Before the start of the round, Coritiba had 26 points, in penultimate place, while Cruzeiro, with 37, was 17th, the first within the red part of the table.

The two teams played at Vila Capanema, Paraná Clube’s stadium, as Couto Pereira, Coritiba’s stadium, will host a concert by the band Red Hot Chili Peppers.
