The Brazilian team that will participate in the next edition of the Parapan American Games, which will be held in Santiago (Chile), begins its journey to the Chilean capital next Sunday (12). According to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), shipments will be made by modalities until next Saturday (18).
The first of the 324 Brazilian athletes to travel to Chile will be swimming, table tennis and wheelchair basketball. The three teams together have 133 members, 88 of whom are athletes (38 in swimming, 24 in wheelchair basketball and 26 in table tennis).
“It is important to arrive at the city of the competition early, especially when it is in another country. First to adapt to the local climate. Then, feel the energy of the event and focus on our goals as soon as possible. This entire acclimatization process counts when fighting for medals”,
evaluated basketball player Eduardo Oliveira, one of the athletes who made up the first group to embark for Santiago on Sunday.
In Santiago, Brazil will try to maintain its hegemony in the biggest Paralympic competition on the continent, as it has been the leader of the medal table since the 2007 edition, in Rio de Janeiro. The country will be represented in athletics, badminton, wheelchair basketball, boccia, cycling, PC football (cerebral palsy), blind football, goalball, judo, weightlifting, swimming, wheelchair rugby, taekwondo, wheelchair tennis wheels, table tennis, archery and sports shooting.
“This will be the largest Brazilian Paralympic delegation in history at the Parapan American Games. We can only thank all confederations, clubs, coaches, multidisciplinary teams and athletes for their dedication and hard work throughout this journey. We hope to maintain the pace and performance of our last participations. Our athletes arrive very well prepared for the Games and our expectation is that they will bring many medals to Brazil”,
stated the president of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, Mizael Conrado.
